About Tony Montes

Tony is a Global Talent Management Leader (Wharton-Talent Management Institute) with expertise in Leadership Succession and developing Group-level leadership talent.

He has over 25 years international experience in strategic Human Capital Management and leveraging workforce diversity in various sectors.

As former Vice President for Talent Management in ADNOC Distribution in Abu Dhabi, he led the strategic talent component of the company’s shift from a 45-year old government service entity into its publicly listed status following the IPO announcement in 2017. He initiated and led the creation of service education across the company.

Tony was also engaged in senior leadership development and building the safety culture for nuclear professionals with Nawah Energy Company, the Middle East’s first civilian nuclear power station.

He was in Abu Dhabi Company for Onshore Petroleum Operations (ADCO) as Talent Management Manager/Senior Advisor for 7 years where he led corporate accountability and strategic influencing over decision principles, standards, and processes to generate the talent and succession pools for key technical and managerial positions. This covered Emiratization, establishing competency-based assessment/selection, learning and progression, employee performance management, design and delivery of leadership development frameworks through a period of growth in the company’s production capacity and major change in concession partnerships.

Prior to his assignments in the UAE, Tony spent close to 10 years as a Leadership and Organizational Behaviour faculty member in Ashridge Business School. He was responsible for designing/delivering open and tailored leadership programs and held the post of subject leader for the HR curriculum for the MBA/EMBA. He was concurrent client director for leadership development covering global Pharma companies, the UK public sector, other international conglomerates, and co-founder of the Ashridge Public Leadership Centre.

In his private capacity, he led the Pathways Leadership Programme which aimed to double the representation of ethnic minority leaders and improve gender diversity at the UK Government’s Senior Civil Service. He was involved in working with the UK Cabinet Office to develop cohorts of high potential civil servants across various ministries and departments.

Tony was previously Global Diversity Manager for Shell International where he co-created and launched with the Committee of Managing Directors the Group’s business case, strategy, aspirational targets and transformation processes for managing diversity globally. He also held various posts in Shell mainly in Supply Chain and Logistics and Learning and Development in the Philippines and Malaysia.
